Plazuelas had a big year in 2023. They celebrated 13 years in business, completed a long-anticipated bar build, and purchased land in Mexico to begin farming agave. They celebrated these milestones with a ticketed four course dinner timed with their 13th anniversary, complete with cocktail pairings in collaboration with Mexican artisanal spirit importer Mexa brands.

I was honored to design a poster and menu for this special event, along with a limited edition t-shirt. In contrast to the lively, light-hearted atmosphere of past events, the tone of this event needed to feel more intentional, traditional, and premium. Working with inspiration and references important to the owners, we created a visual language for the event that celebrates the values Plazuelas aspires to: craft, tradition, and uncommon hospitality
SCOPE:

-T-Shirt
-Poster
-Menu
T-Shirts
The hand drawn illustration that features on the
t-shirt celebrates Jimadors, craftsmen that harvest the agave plants used to create tequila and mezcal. As Plazuelas celebrated a new bar specializing in these spirits, the Jimador was a perfect symbol for their traditional approach to craft cocktails.
Poster
The Nahui Ollin is an Aztec symbol that appears on the icon of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and is personally significant to the owners of Plazuelas. It was special to work its symbology into this project.
Menu
There was a lot of information to fit into this menu, but it was important to minimize it to a single page. Over several iterations we were able to arrive at this layout; balancing legibility and aesthetic in a truly beautiful guide to the night’s cuisine.
